Leaders from Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties have initiated the establishment of a cutting-edge forensic laboratory, the Tri-County Biological Science Center, which will be situated on Leeds Avenue in North Charleston, South Carolina. This collaborative regional effort, encompassing 21,480 square feet, the first of its kind in South Carolina and is designed to enhance the efficiency of DNA processing by optimizing local forensic analysis procedures. New England Lab along with Contract Construction, LS3P, MWL Architects, and our vendor Mott Manufacturing will work together on this initiative to establish a state-of-the-art facility.
The laboratory is anticipated to incorporate wood casework into the extensive laboratory and office space for forensic biology analysis, executive offices, and secure storage for evidence, giving it a classic look with full overly construction with a chemical resistant finish. Furthermore, the center will facilitate the examination of physical evidence for law enforcement agencies, aid in the identification of human remains for coroners’ offices, and provide expert testimony to the judicial system, ensuring that occupants benefit from a versatile system customized to their specific requirements. Painted steel raised utility cores present a well-organized solution, featuring a service chase that efficiently conceals plumbing, electrical, and data services, thereby keeping the work area clear and accessible.
The SafeGuard™ fume hoods, strategically placed above a mix of acid and flammable storage cabinets, enhance both functionality and visibility in this area, fostering a safe and efficient environment for examinations. New England Lab is honored to support the Tri-County Biological Science Center project, assisting agencies in converting this space into a facility that meets diverse research and application requirements. We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this initiative and look forward to working closely with all involved parties.
