After being awarded Phase 1 of the Duke University Carmichael Building project, New England Lab was awarded Phase 2 - working alongside LeChase Construction, LLC and Gaudreau Construction Ltd.
Located in the heart of Durham, NC, the 115,000 sq. ft. building, built in 1926, was originally a tobacco warehouse for Liggett & Myers Tobacco Co. In May 2012, the bulding was acquired by Longfellow Real Estate Partners, LLC for adaptive re-use into Class A laboratory and office space.
Duke University and Duke Medicine plan to expand their campus into downtown, and are scheduled to occupy the building in November 2013. Phase 2 will be completed in Q2 2014.
Targeted for a LEED Silver certification, the renovated building will include NEL's painted steel casework and fume hoods.
